The water industry in England and Wales is bracing for AMP8, set to begin on 1st April 2025. This next chapter of Asset Management Plans demands bold strides in efficiency, customer engagement and innovation. Yet, the reality is stark – half of all water companies are failing to meet their resource management targets.
This underperformance comes at a critical moment, with regulators like Ofwat, the Environment Agency and Defra urging water-stressed companies to step up their leakage, demand reduction and supply schemes. For those on the back foot, the solution is clear – partnering with specialists like Advizzo to leverage behavioural science and advanced customer engagement strategies to achieve measurable results.
A sector under pressure
The water industry has faced increasing scrutiny, with seven companies operating in water-stressed regions called out for “serious concerns” about their 2023-2024 performance. These companies must act swiftly to address inefficiencies, reduce leakage and meet per capita consumption (PCC) targets.
The letter states, “This year, the annual review is particularly important because of its position ahead of a published WRMP24 and the start of the next five-year investment period in April 2025. The regulators have applied a high level of scrutiny to the process, and we expect companies to improve performance on the issues raised”.
The stakes are high. Recent data shows a modest improvement in average household PCC, dropping from 141 l/p/d in 2022-2023 to 137 l/p/d in 2023-2024. While promising, this progress needs to accelerate, especially as leakage reduction and water demand management remain top priorities heading into AMP8.
Advizzo: The partner you need for AMP8 success

Success Stories: Real results, real impact
Southern Water: Target 100 Program – Southern Water’s ambitious Target 100 project aims to reduce average consumption to 100 l/p/d by 2040 while cutting leakage by 15% by 2025 and 40% by 2040. As part of this initiative, Advizzo supported a behavioural water efficiency programme to uncover the most impactful ways to reduce consumption.
- 75% customers took steps to reduce consumption
- 73% average email open rate
- 75% customer engaged online and completed our Home Survey
- 0.5% water saved by engaged customers

These outcomes highlight the potential of tailored customer engagement to drive meaningful change. Explore the full case study here.
Severn Trent: My Smart Tracker Project
Tasked by the UK water regulator with reducing home water leaks, Severn Trent Water (STW) implemented Advizzo’s water leak detection and customer engagement software in 2023. Utilising insights from users and smart metres, the solution enabled customers to identify and fix leaks whilst reducing water usage. With just two reminders, up to 70% of customers successfully addressed their leaks, demonstrating the effectiveness of this approach. In 2023, we have measure the following results:
- 76,000 STW customer engaged
- 100,000 litres/day water saved
- 1.65 Ml/d leakage saving/ 15,346 m3 per day reduced consumption
- 3.65 Ml/d 1reduce consumption using Behavioural Insights – 10.8L/day out of 138L/day = 7.8% Savings per home
